Important Notes:
- Voting rules and settings are set at the group-level, not the account level, and can vary between groups. Information on how to set or modify group-level vote settings can be found here.
- Changing voting rules or settings will not modify any vote that is currently open or has been previously opened - changes will only affect future votes.
- Group vote settings can only be changed by members possessing the role of chair or administrator.
Successful Vote Calculation
A number of settings exist to specify whether a vote is successful (Passed) or unsuccessful (Did Not Pass). These settings include:
- The Successful Vote Threshold - This represents the percentage of 'Yes' votes for the vote to be successful and can be set to:
- Greater than 50%
- Equal or greater than 60%
- Equal or greater than 66.67%
- Equal or greater than 75%
- Unanimous (100%)
- A custom percentage value that the vote must be equal or greater than (up to 2 decimal place)
- The Quorum Threshold - This specifies the percentage of active voting members of a group required to make a vote in order for the vote to be considered valid. Any vote, including an 'abstain' vote will count towards the quorum threshold. If a vote does not reach the specified level, the result of the vote will be displayed as 'No Quorum'. Available values include:
- 0% - No quorum required
- 1-100% (whole percentages only)
- Inclusion of 'Abstain' Votes in Total Votes - This specifies whether to include votes marked 'abstain' (neither yes or no) made by voting members. If set to 'Yes', the abstain votes will be included when calculating whether sufficient 'Yes' votes meet the successful vote threshold.
- Inclusion of 'Did Not Vote' in Total Votes - This specifies whether to include absent votes by active voting members. If set to 'Yes', absent votes will be included when calculating whether sufficient 'Yes' votes meet the successful vote threshold.
Other Vote Settings:
A number of additional vote settings exist to further control topic voting and general system behavior related to voting. These settings include:
- Motions Required - This specifies whether voting members must motion for a vote before a chair or administrator can open a topic for voting. Available values include:
- 0 - No motions are required and motion functionality is hidden within the group
- 1 - A single motion by an active voting member is required to open a vote
- 2 - A second motion by an active voting member is required to open a vote
- Chair Certifications Required - This specifies whether members with the role of group chair must certify the voting outcome before the results are formalized. Until all chairs certify the results, the voting result will possess a status of 'Pending Certification'.
- Disable Individual Vote Notifications - This specifies whether to display vote notifications within the application when other members vote. For larger groups, the volume of vote notifications can obfuscate and overwhelm the notification feature unless this setting is set to 'Off'.
- Hide Individual Voting Results - This specifies whether individual member votes will be shown to other group members. When this value is set to 'Yes', all voting within the group will remain anonymous during and after voting.
- Hide Vote Results Until Vote is Closed - This specifies whether to show individual and aggregate vote results while a vote is in progress. When this value is set to 'Yes', individual and total results will only be visible after voting is closed. This setting can also be used in conjunction with the 'hide individual voting results' setting to both hide aggregate results until voting is closed and keep individual votes anonymous, even after the vote is closed.
